We just spent a very cool afternoon visiting the museum at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge. It was one of the "afternoon-off" activities that are part of the Workshop on Targetry and Target Chemistry that Doug is attending here.
Cavendish is where a heck of a lot of the great science of the last 130 or so years has been done. The names and photos of research students is a who's who of physics, and lots of other fields. And the list of Nobel Prize winners who did some or all of their work there is very impressive.
In some ways it reminded me of the equally enjoyable afternoon that we spent last year at the Alexander Graham Bell House Museum in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. Going to the great seats of science and technology of the past is inspiring for geeks like us...
