1st Ride!

Got the bikes together today (photos) and went for a ride in the early evening.

[More:]

Scoped out routes for Susan to use to get from Saint-Renan to IFREMER at the Technopole on the bay south of Plouzané. Several people had warned us that the direct road (D38) was busy and dangerous. So, we went south on a collection of smaller back roads. Great ride, and they were nicely sheltered from a strong SW wind by hedgerows. Got to IFREMER with a couple of wrong turns and 14 km showing on the bike computers.

Returned to Saint-Renan on the D38 and found it to be not bad at all. There is a bike lane out of IFREMER, and then a good cyclepath beside the road for several km. The last 5 km to Saint-Renan are plenty wide enough for 2 cars and a bike. And the drivers are way more courteous to bikes than is generally true around Vancouver. So, it's all good!

Update: A couple of days later we took this set of photos on the morning ride to IFREMER. (I ride to the institute with Susan and then go exploring on the way back to the house for a nice 1-2 hour ride in the morning.)
